The Spring Creek National in Millville, MN, hosted round seven of the 2011 AMA Motocross Championship and Women's Motocross Championship this weekend, and the Honda Red Riders overcame the hot weather conditions aboard their CRF250Rs and CRF450Rs, scoring two podium finishes. American Honda Racing's Trey Canard made a stellar return to racing, finishing third overall in the 450 class and Honda teammate Ashley Fiolek finished runner-up in the Women's class.

Canard made an impressive return to racing after injuring his leg earlier in the year. A rookie in the 450 class, Canard excelled at his Motocross Championship debut. Getting great starts in both motos aboard his Honda CRF450R, he nabbed fifth in moto one and finished third in moto two for third overall. Teammate Kevin Windham finished 11-10 for 10th overall.

"Man, I am so happy to be on the podium at my first-ever 450-class Motocross event," said Canard. "It feels awesome to be back racing with everyone. I got good starts in both motos and was third out of the start gate each time. In moto one the heat really got to me, and I dropped a couple of spots during the race. In moto two I maintained third place from start to finish, which I am really happy with. I definitely picked tough weather conditions to make my return to racing. It was so hot out there. Unfortunately, I don't have the fitness and sheer speed of the lead riders, yet. That will all come, though; give me a few more races to get up to speed."

After a dominating moto-one victory, TwoTwo Motorsports' Chad Reed overcame a horrendous crash in moto two to go 1-14 for fifth overall. This heroic effort helped Reed maintain a six-point lead in the championship chase. "I can't believe I came away from that crash virtually unscathed," said Reed. "I was really trying to keep my intensity high this weekend and I was going for two wins. After winning moto one my goal was to come out strong in moto two, which I did, and win the second. I had passed [Ryan] Villopoto and was in the lead when the crash happened. I've never had a crash that big before. Somehow my bike and myself came away virtually damage free. Following the crash, it was definitely the roar of the crowd that kept me going—their support pushed me to finish the race."

In the 250 class, Honda rider Alex Martin looked impressive at his home race as he scored 7-5 for fifth overall. GEICO Honda's Wil Hahn did a fine job at his second 250-class event of the season, going 9-8 for seventh overall. Teammate Justin Barcia suffered a broken nose when he crashed hard in moto one. Despite the facial injury, Barcia soldiered on to finish moto two in sixth place for 12th overall. GEICO Honda's Eli Tomac struggled in the hot weather conditions, finishing 13th overall.

In the Women's class, Fiolek came out on top in moto one and finished runner-up in moto two aboard her CRF250R for second overall. Fiolek has an eight-point lead in the championship with three rounds to go.

Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Honda's Tarah Gieger finished third overall, while fellow Honda racer Kasie Creson nabbed fifth overall and Lindsey Palmer rounded out the weekend in ninth spot.
