From spreading knowledge to planting trees, Honda associates across North America were busy last week as they marked Earth Day. Here is a synopsis of the many activities that took place.
Tree plantings
Associates from Honda Canada (CH) and Honda Transmission Manufacturing of America Inc. (HTM) were among the Honda companies that marked Earth Day by planting trees. CH supports the work of national tree-planting program Forest Recovery Canada with the “One Honda. One Tree.” campaign that pledges to plant one tree for every Honda lawn and garden or ATV product sold from April 1 to July 31. Through the program, CH has planted more than 140,000 trees across Canada over the past 11 years. At HTM in Ohio, associates replaced a dead ash tree with a Red Maple tree, adding topsoil, and planting new grass.
Education and Service
Honda of America Mfg. (HAM) associates celebrated Earth Day with education and service. At the Anna Engine Plant (AEP), green initiatives were showcased. Associates could visit a trade-show-style event to see environmentally friendly initiatives such as green lighting. In addition, they were able to spend time with associate Jesus Duenas who has made it his passion to plant trees in his native country of Mexico.
HAM associates also volunteered at a Sidney, Ohio, park on Earth Day. The team painted four shelter houses and 24 picnic tables with the aim of helping children enjoy the great outdoors. Over the years, HAM’s HondaGo volunteers have done other work at the park, donating money for a new playground and helping install it.
Highway Clean-up
Honda R&D Americas associates in Ohio focused on beautification and education. Associates had the opportunity to learn about natural home landscaping at a Lunch ‘N Learn event while 25 associates took part in a Highway Clean-up, filling several bags of trash.
Associates also got their children involved in Earth Day festivities with an art contest. Children were asked to submit their vision of an eco car of the future. Four winners were chosen; one depicted a car that cleans up trash as it drives and the others highlighted vehicles powered by alternative energy such as solar- and dirt-power.
Earth Day Display
Honda Manufacturing of Indiana (HMIN) educated the public on its green efforts at the 2017 Earth Day Indiana Festival. One of more than 150 booths, HMIN stood out by displaying the latest Honda Civic and CR-V, both produced at the plant.
Established in 1970, Earth Day works to educate and create change that will positively impact the environment.
