Eagle Rock Students Showcase Importance of Philanthropy
November 15, 2016 –A short, five-minute video produced by Eagle Rock students that illustrates the importance of service work was presented to a banquet hall of more than 400 community members in November.
The occasion was National Philanthropy Day and six Eagle Rock students and four staff members debuted the video at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, CO. The focus of this year’s philanthropic event was “Youth in Philanthropy,” and several Eagle Rock students shot, edited and produced this year’s offering, which focuses on what service means to the Eagle Rock School student population.
Eagle Rock School and Professional Development Center, wholly-funded by American Honda, is a national, tuition-free, residential, alternative high school that for the past 23 years has been committed to educating some of the country’s most disengaged, underserved students.
Last year, Eagle Rock was awarded the Youth Philanthropy Award for its service work with the Estes Park community by the Estes Park Nonprofit Resource Center. Running youth soccer clinics in Estes Park, cleaning up brush in Rocky Mountain National Park, and visiting the elderly and infirm at senior facilities are among the community projects for which Eagle Rock students volunteer.
This year’s Eagle Rock video also documents volunteer students discussing the importance of lifelong service in developing a well-rounded community.
Following the presentation of the film, Jeff Liddle, Eagle Rock’s head of school, along with student Javon Banks, spoke about how Eagle Rock helps the local community and how philanthropy remains a big part of the founding principles of the school.
