Statement by Acura Regarding Trailer Hitch Accessory Kit Recall: 2014 Acura MDX
- 652 trailer hitch accessory kits are being recalled in the U.S.; Approximately 340 of those kits may have actually been installed on vehicles
- Trailer hitch wire harnesses will be inspected and either re-labeled or repaired at no charge
- No crashes or injuries have been reported related to this issue
Acura will voluntarily recall 652 Acura Genuine Accessory trailer hitch kits, approximately 340 of which may have been installed on 2014 model-year MDX vehicles in the U.S., to re-label and repair a wire harness. The accessory wire harness was incorrectly assembled during production, and it may not properly power a trailer's accessory brake controller when installed using provided instructions, potentially increasing stopping distances and increasing the risk of a crash when towing a trailer equipped with an independent braking system. No crashes or injuries have been reported related to this issue.
Acura is announcing this recall to encourage owners of all affected vehicles to take their vehicles to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Acura. Mailed notification to customers will begin in mid-August 2013, and at that time, owners of these vehicles will be able to determine if their vehicles require repair by going on-line to www.recalls.acura.com or by calling (800) 382-2238, and selecting option 4.
